Forget the myth about frogs or toads causing warts. It's simply not true. Warts are caused by a viral infection of the skin. Therefore, since it is a virus it can be spread to others by sharing towels or razors. You can also spread it to other parts of your body by touching the wart and then another part of your body.
According to WebMD, “A wart is a skin growth caused by some types of the virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV). There are more than 100 known types of HPV. HPV infects the top layer of skin, usually entering the body in an area of broken skin. The virus causes the top layer of skin to grow rapidly, forming a wart. Most warts go away on their own within months or years.”
Warts tend to form on your hands and fingers and plantar warts get on the bottom of the feet. In either case, it's good to see your doctor for diagnosis. They can recommend how to treat the warts.

- Apply to the wart an over the counter product like Dr. Scholl's, Clear Away, that contains salicylic acid. They come in liquid or pads, which makes it easy to apply.
- Freeze the wart with Dr. Scholl's an over the counter product called Freeze Away or cryotherapy. This is freezing the wart much like your Doctor will do. It is good for common warts or plantar warts. If this method is for you, try it.
- Visit your doctor or dermatologist where they will use liquid nitrogen. It's applied to the wart to freeze it. There are internet sites to tell you how to do this process yourself at home; however, it is my opinion to save the job for the professionals so you avoid getting an infection.
- For the more stubborn warts, there is another process called Cantharidin. When applying this chemical to the wart, it causes a blister to form under the wart. In a week or more, the doctor can clip away the dead skin.
- Another thing the doctor might do is burn it off. This is done with laser to cut it out.
