Become a Student Money Saver
University can be a very expensive few years, especially when you're not earning a full wage, here are a few student money saving tips to help save some cash whilst you're enjoying your time as a student.
If you plan a night out with friends clubbing or bar-hopping, it's always a good idea to pre-drink at home... Hop in your local Tesco and Sainsbury's, buy yourself a 6-pack or share it with a friend. Head to your JCR with your new mates in College, socialise a little bit, before heading out. Drinking in the residences before going out saves you a lot more on expensive club drinks.
Save money by cooking in big groups, create a 'dinner club' take it in turns to cook for 6 people at a time, 500g of mince and plenty of vegetables can feed 6 in a chillie or Spaghetti Bolognese, it's a lot of fun and a brilliant way to make new friends.
Enter loads of competitions and free draws! Even if you don't want or need the prize, you could sell on the prize to a friend or relative! And even if they don't want it, eBay it: selling free stuff = cash profit! If you enter enough, you are bound to win a few things and you can find loads on the internet.
If you don't want to buy expensive external hard-drives to take home and do essays and assignments, e-mail yourself the work. This way you also have a back-up copy for others.
Embrace the charity shops, university cities usually have loads of great charity shops selling all sorts of different things, buy vintage clothing, books and music
Don't take any mugs or plates with you (they'll probably get broken in the move anyway). University societies give out tonnes of these during Freshers' Fairs. And even if you can't pick any up there, most student accommodation has left overs like this from the previous year or local supermarkets will be doing great deals to get full sets for under £5
Finally, get your student discount cards, this will save a lot of money in the long run, going to gyms, fitness centres, cinema, haircuts, eating out and many others.
