Their content royalties will accumulate over time; if their content appeals to the masses then the writer’s goal will become a reality. If you are interested in learning how to increase your article traffic then here are some tips.

Keywords
Share your knowledge by choosing a topic that you are familiar with. The topic is the keyword or phrase that will optimize your article in the search engines. To earn more you would choose words that visitors search for. Select the topic for your article and then write your article around the keyword. For instance I am a garden designer and thus I am skilled in growing and designing gardens, a garden article would be well suited for my topic and gardening appeals to the masses.
Images
Images will enhance your article and will help you to gain more traffic. Many Images are indexed in Google image finder and thus when the viewer searches for an image they may view the image from your article and thus when they click onto the image the viewer will be rerouted to your article.

Your friends will then reciprocate and do the same for you. This is an excellent way to increase your traffic and to keep your content fresh.
Backlink Content
Increase your content traffic by backlinking to other articles and blogs that are related. Comment on blogs and use the open URL. Sign with your name or keyword and add a related URL by doing this you will make more money.
Another way to backlink your content is to participate on forums or join a website that is primarily questions; Yahoo answers or Life123 are two websites that welcome backlinks. Look for a question that relates to your article topic and then answer with text and use your link as your resource.
Set Monthly Goals
Set publishing goals at the beginning of the month. Achieve the goal by getting other writers to set a publishing goal also. Communicate with your friends to keep them motivated. Make writing fun by choosing the topic of the week. For an example you could choose timely articles and then you would write about worldly events, celebrities, seasonal activates or upcoming holidays. I noticed that using the sites you mentioned above doesn't really get me much traffic. More than 80% of my traffic is organic (coming from search engines).
Also, I set goals in my head every month (well, maybe even every day) but it seems I'm having difficulties reaching them lol
Also, I edit my content all the time!
Have to check that IMAutomator, too...
Thanks for sharing your experience - it's valuable to me and to others, I'm sure :)
