skype makes sign language interpreter jobs available to people who travel. Yes, most interpreters make good money. I know a people that are able to make a living from a few hours a day. They ware pretty much just on call for that period of time and do what they want the rest of the time.

You also need to make sure you get the right language. There are many, many different sign languages. If you speak English, likely you want American Sign Language or ASL. ASL is a true language.

The previous version of English sign language wasn't really a true language. That language had you do a word for word translation from English. The new ASL has it's own grammer and is widely adopted.

Although there is sign language based on many other spoken languages, ASL is the more common sign language.

Also, if you have high speed internet. It's easier to learn sign from video. Your hands move during signs so it is often more difficult to accurately get the sign when it is printed (and therefore stationary). There are online video dictionaries available to help.
