Seekyt FAQ

Welcome to Seekyt.com! If you have questions, you should check out the answers below first to see if you can find the answer you are looking for. You can also browse the Journals and read the Content Guidelines to find the answers to some other questions you may have.

How To Use Seekyt.com

  • Registration and Logging In

  • You have the option to either register a classic Seekyt account using the short form, or you can register and sign in using a 3rd party account: in this case, Twitter, Facebook, Google or Flickr. If you register using one of those accounts, you MUST sign in using that account. After you sign in, DO NOT use the "forgot password" form on your account if you registered with a 3rd party provider. If you have a regular account, you can associate a 3rd party account with your current login information. This will allow you sign in the regular way, or using your other account. Once the account is associated, you cannot remove it, so choose wisely. Also, you can only associate one account with your Seekyt account, so make sure it's the one you really want.
  • What is Seekyt.com?

  • You can use Seekyt to write articles and make money. You can keep a mini-blog (we call them Journals) to organize your thoughts or publicly write things that are on your mind. You can include rich content, such as videos and images quickly and easily in your articles. If you add your AdSense ID by clicking on "Account" and then clicking on "Settings," you can share 70% of the AdSense revenue on your articles. You can also enter your Amazon Tracking ID in your Profile and earn 70% of the Amazon Associates Program revenue on your articles. Most of All, you can have a lot of fun, make some money, meet some great writers, and enjoy the experience.
  • How Do I Submit Stuff?

  • First, you need to either login or register. After that, you can click on the submit button and enter a title, a description, and enter some tags. When you write articles, you can use the text editor to add images and videos to your articles, add links, and even add things like Google Maps and Amazon ads. Of course, if you make a mistake and don't like the way your article looks, you can always go back and find the article you want to change, and click on the "Edit" button to edit the details, or delete the story if you don't like it.
  • What is my Google AdSense Publisher ID / Amazon Associates Tracking ID?

  • Log into Google AdSense and look at the top right corner of the page. You will find your publisher ID. All you need to do is copy the numbers only and enter them in your Account Settings. You can find your Amazon Associates Tracking ID by logging into your Amazon Associates account, and looking at the top left corner of the left sidebar. The tracking ID will look like this: xxxxxx-xx. Go to your Account and click "Edit Profile" to enter your Amazon associate ID. From that point on, all of your articles will display your own AdSense ads 70% of the time, and your own Amazon Associate ads 70% of the time!
  • What's With The Avatars?

  • The site is set to display random avatars for each user, and they change every time the page is loaded. If you'd like your own unique avatar, you will need to upload one to Gravatar using the same email address for your account as you used to sign up on Seekyt. Otherwise, a neat random avatar will be displayed for you each time you load a page. Also, you will see in the top left corner of the navigation bar a tiny little avatar before the "Home" link. That's a shortcut to your profile!

  • Can I Track My Seekyt Traffic?

Yep! Log in, go to your account, click on "Edit Profile" and you will find a place to enter your Google Analytics ID. For a detailed, Step-By-Step guide on how to use Analytics at Seekyt, check out this article or this one

Content Guidelines

  • What are the Content Guidelines?

  • When you first sign up at Seekyt, your first 3 articles will be held for moderation. This is to make sure you are not simply joining to spam the site. We require you to write at least 400 word articles that follow the Google AdSense guidelines. After your first 3 articles are approved, you are assumed trustworthy enough to have your remaining articles automatically approved - however, they will still be checked to ensure they meet our guidelines.

The Seekyt community has taken a strong stance against poor quality and plagiarism! They will report content violations, so it's a good idea to follow the rules :)

For a detailed description of the dos and don'ts, read our content guidelines page thoroughly
  • My articles seem to be deleted, or aren't showing up. How Come?

  • If you have submitted something that I believe is spam, or breaks the rules, I will delete it from Seekyt. This is usually pretty rare, but just so you know, please be aware that I take spam very seriously. I want to keep Seekyt.com a cool place for writing articles. Just don't break the rules, and everything will be fine. If your articles aren't showing up, they are probably just waiting to be moderated. Don't worry: if it's not spam, they will be on the site very soon
  • I broke the rules, and now I can't log in or create a new account. Why!?

Usually, your account won't be deleted until you have consistently broken the rules over and over again, or if you link to some content that is seriously inappropriate (such as pornography). If you can't log in, and you are certain that your password and user name combination is correct, sorry!. I have probably disabled your account, blocked your IP address, submitted your username and IP address to the Stop Forum Spam log so that you won't be able to spam other awesome sites, and I will be watching to see if you come back and spam again. I know it sounds harsh, but lets be honest: Seekyt needs credibility, and we can't be credible if we let people get away with breaking the rules! Just be cool, and you will love this site!

Making Money

  • So How Exactly Do I Earn Money?

  • Once you write articles and have submitted your AdSense ID in your account, all of your journals and articles will begin to display your Google AdSense ads 70% of the time, and your Amazon Associate ads 70% of the time. Unlike some other revenue sharing programs, Seekyt does not actually "split" the revenue with you. You will earn 100% of the value of a Google AdSense ad click, as long as it's your own ad that is clicked on. Note that you must have at least one approved article to earn money on Seekyt.com
  • I wrote an article. How will that earn money?

  • Articles have the potential to make money because they have the potential to be found in the search engines. Search engine traffic is, usually, the best traffic for Google AdSense and Amazon. To make sure you have the best chance of getting traffic, you will need to do two things: make sure your articles are optimized, and link back to them.
  • How do I make sure my articles are optimized?

  • The first thing that you'll want to do is pick a keyword. Your keyword is the topic of your article. Some keywords have a lot of competition (i.e. many other people have written about that subject, or even created entire sites based around the subject), while other keywords are more likely to get the top positions in the search engines. After you have done some research and picked a keyword, you will want to make sure the Title of your article includes the keyword, the first sentence of the article includes the keyword, the keyword makes up between 1-3% of all the words in the article, and the keyword is mentioned in the tags that add to the article before you submit it. Another tip I can give you is to include an image whenever possible with your articles using the text editor, and make sure that the "alternate text" includes your keyword. Finally, write your articles for the people who will be reading them. Make sure your content is informative, fun to read, and easy to understand. Including videos and images will make it interesting, and people will be more likely to link it if you create something really cool.
  • How do I link back to my articles?

  • The easiest way to do this is to note the link of your article after it has been submitted, and to bookmark that link on other sites. You can also get strong backlinks to your articles by including anchor text links in other articles across the internet. Your anchor text should be the keyword you are trying to rank for in the search engines. You can also easily spread the word of your articles using the "share" buttons that are located on every article.

  • Do You Have A Referral Program?

Yes! And it's worth your time, too. Most sites offer between 2-10% of earnings for your referrals, but here at Seekyt you can receive 25% of Google AdSense and Amazon Associates impressions on all of your Referrals' articles. Don't worry, they still get 70%, and it doesn't hurt anyone in any way to be referred... The 25% is deducted from Seekyt's share! Please note, however, that you must have at least one approved submission of your own to earn money with referrals.

Other Questions

  • I still have questions!

First, check out the journals to see if the same question has been asked - it will also have been answered. You can also submit a journal post to have your question publicly answered, or simply contact me with your question. I always respond to emails within a day, and usually within just a couple of hours.

Enjoy!
