"Call Me Maybe" has been #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for over 9 weeks now! It has sold over 5 million copies and been downloaded millions of times. "Call Me Maybe" is the latest from singer Carly Rae Jepsen and it is the song of the summer in 2012. Carly Rae Jepsen came in third place on the fifth season of Canadian Idol in 2007. She released an album, Tug of War, not long after and had two songs on the Canadian Hot 100. Her second album is Curiosity and it was released on Valentine's Day in 2012. "Call Me Maybe" is the first single and before it even hit the airwaves it had two big celebrity fans in Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. Both tweeted about the song and helped it gain popularity.
"Call Me Maybe" is about love at first sight and the infatuation you can sometimes get when you see a person but have never talked to them. Jepsen said that it's "basically a pick up. What person hasn't wanted to approach somebody before and stopped because it's scary? I know I have." In the song Jepsen describes how she becomes attracted to a person she has never met just from watching him. "Call Me Maybe" is very catchy and after hearing it a few times you cannot help but sing along with it.
In addition to blowing up the U.S. charts, "Call Me Maybe" has been #1 in Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom and on the Canadian Hot 100. It first cracked the U.S. top ten in April and hit #1 by late June. It has been #1 longer than any other song this year and is the hit song of the summer. Since it's success several big name artists have covered it such as Katy Perry, Big Time Rush, Fun, R5 and en Howard. Cookie Monster on Sesame Street even sang his own version of the song.
Next up for Carly Rae Jepsen is a new album in September. She recently announced the name of the album which will be Kiss. Carly Rae Jepsen will be on the season premiere of 90210 performing a new song. Some big names appear on Kiss include Redfoo from LMFAO who helped write and perform the title song with Jepsen. Another track will be a collaboration with Justin Bieber which is sure to hit the charts. Hopefully Kiss will have the same success for Carly Rae Jepsen that "Call Me Maybe" has enjoyed!
